The ideal candidate:
You definitely:
- Are a smart, motivated, focused person who enjoys building solid systems
- Are an expert in Linux system administration
- Are pretty darn good at Windows system administration as well
- Have significant networking experience — you'll be setting up subnets, DNS servers and the like
- Have proficiency in at least one scripting language (python, ruby, whatever)
- Can use shell scripting for the occasional cron job
- Have a good understanding of server security
- Know how to set up load balancers, VLANs etc
- Are living in NYC or looking to move here
- Are qualified to work in the United States
- Are a good communicator and enjoy working with teams of smart folk
- You have opinions on the right way to do things, and are comfortable sharing them, respectfully
It'd be great if you:
- Are excited by the concept of coming up with something cool to share on our Arc90 Lab
- Have experience with Amazon EC2 and/or the AWS stack
- Have some experience with intrusion detection/protection systems
- Have experience in any of the following:
- website monitoring and uptime
- administering JVM-based apps
- Lucene/Solr or Sphinx
- Hadoop
- DVCS
- continuous integration
- Chef or any other declarative configuration system
- queuing/messaging platforms
- memcached
- a key/value store (Cassandra, Redis, Hypertable, Tokyo Cabinet, CouchDB, Mongo, etc)
- Are a little forward thinking — you've got an interest in the future of the web and how it relates to your profession
