The ideal candidate:

This highly motivated technical professional will be reporting to the Chief Technology Officer. The job holder will be responsible for the development of innovative software solutions utilizing our existing enterprise software platform and products. Additionally, he or she will be the key hands-on leaders in the software product development life-cycle, performing analysis, driving software architecture and design, development, integration and testing for major, minor and maintenance releases.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of success in similar or complimentary environments and will possess the leadership skills to foster the growth and potential of an extremely accomplished and dynamic development team.

Skill requirements

• 5+ years working with Java
• 2+ years of leading projects using open source stack including Spring, Hibernate, Eclipse, JUnit etc
• 2+ years as a team lead, lead architect or engineering manager
• Experience with web 2.0 technologies and REST based interfaces
• Experience deploying applications on Windows, Linux and OSX
• Experience working in an Enterprise Software startup environment is a plus
• Experience with device control programming (some subset of: serial device control, COM, command line, RS-232, Java Communications API etc) is a plus
• Experience with Flash Remoting, Adobe Flex

Required Qualifications

• Advanced degree (MA/MSc) in computer science, information management or a relevant discipline. Equivalent experience will be considered.
• Extensive Project management experience.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing technical architectures as part of the overall enterprise roadmap.
• Hands on experience in systems modeling and design, software modeling and design, and software development
• Experience with design of scalable relational database systems
• Demonstrated ability to document technical specifications and related project or systems level documentation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Work effectively within a team and inspire team members
• Ability to work collaboratively across the organization to deliver the specific objectives of a business plan
• Experience in delivering successful systems within a variety of business sectors
• Proficient at implementing complex business logic requirements for large-scale business applications, high availability, failover redundancy, latency issues
• Proven success in leading teams to bring products to market on budget and on time
• Problem solving skills with an ability to research, analyze and find solutions independently
• Experience with agile development process and unit testing
• Detail oriented and takes pride in a job well done
• 8+ years of Java programming experience in complex, multi-tiered, multi-threaded systems
• 2+ years working with the latest Java open source stack including Spring, Hibernate, Eclipse, JUnit etc
• 2+ years working with Cisco unified communications platforms
• 2+ years working in an Enterprise software startup environment
• 2+ years as a team lead, lead architect or engineering manager

Other Desirable Qualifications

Primary Responsibilities - Reports directly to the CTO - Researches, designs, and writes software to specifications, either individually or leading a team of other developers - Works closely with CTO and Management Team to plan ongoing feature development, product maintenance, and management of development teams - Works with clients and Business Development to determine software requirements and system impacts - Works with the development team to: - Enhance existing software by analyzing and identifying areas for optimization or refactoring - Generate and keep up-to-date technical documentation as well as unit and functional tests - Assist with application maintenance by monitoring and correcting software defects - Investigate new technologies and techniques and research ongoing industry developments - Mentors team developers in industry best practices, procedures, and concepts - Creates a collaborative, exciting and fun work environment for the team - Takes ownership of the software architecture and technical infrastructure - Enhance, improve and drive adoption and maintain best practices and methodologies including test driven development, agile iterative processes and collaboration and team oriented environment
