The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors or Masters in CS or EE from a top university. They will be extremely comfortable working with very large data sets and will have been employed in positions where data was the deliverable. The engineer will also be very well versed in the latest Java technologies and will have either HPC or ETL experience. The ideal candidate should also be profoundly excited by hard problems and massive (petabyte sized) scalability issues. They will also enjoy free food and minibike races in the office.

Job Description and responsibilities:

At the heart of Quantcast’s revolutionary services is a team of elite software engineers working on a massive data pipeline. This is the core team that sorts though hundreds of terabytes of data each day and builds advanced distributed computing systems to crunch through Everest sized data sets.

Quantcast is hiring engineers with experience producing top quality code in a production environment where the data was the product. The ideal candidates are fascinated by complex, large scale problems and preoccupied with scalability (as in hundreds of terabytes).

There are only a few companies working with this scale of data and infrastructure. Unlike the rest of them, we’re doing this with a small team, offering new hires direct access to our data and the opportunity to have immediate impact on our core business.

Responsibilities

• Develop large scale cluster data processing
• Build infrastructure to automate extremely high volumes of data delivery
• Contribute to the design and architecture of innovative solutions to difficult problems
• Build and maintain pipelines to ensure that Quantcast site displays the most current data

Requirements

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Experience working with very large, complex data sets
• Willingness to jump into any problem to design creative scaling solutions and deliver crucial solutions on tight deadlines
• Experience building or working on distributed computing infrastructures a plus

Technologies

• Excellent Java programming skills
• Solid database experience (ideally Postgres or MySQL)
• Interest in Grid computing or MapReduce technologies
• HPC or ETL experience a plus
