About the Company:

Postabon is a funded startup based out of New York City. We were founded by two Harvard Business School graduates (and one Harvard CS dropout). Postabon wants to help people find and share the best discounts around them. For example, we can help you find the best sale on a sweater this weekend, which bar has the best happy hour tonight, and so on.

Postabon launched publicly on December 1st 2009, and has tens of thousands of unique visitors every month (and is growing quickly!). We already have about 100 deals per square mile in Manhattan, and will be pushing We've built a web application, native iPhone App, and mobile web application (targeting devices with mobile webkit based browsers such as the iPhone, and Android and Palm WebOS devices). In the future, we're going to be revamping all these front ends, and building dedicated Android, Blackberry, etc. apps.

The back end of Postabon is written in mostly Common Lisp, and is built on a fast key-value store (BerkeleyDB). We're doing all sorts of interesting machine learning on the back end, and are exploring several innovative ideas to help improve the UX.

The ideal candidate:

Description: We’re looking for a top-notch front end engineer to lead all front end development on our website and mobile website (webkit targeted).

For HTML, you should know some of the cool new features of HTML5. You should know enough XML to properly use custom namespaces in an XHTML document. You should cringe when you see a document that doesn’t validate. You should understand the CSS box-model inside and out – and in return we won’t make you support IE6 :-D

Our webapp is very Javascript heavy – ideally your name should be John Resig (but we’ll settle for you knowing who he is ;-)). You should understand Javascript’s prototype object system, lexical scoping (and hence closures), and contexts (you can tell me what the word ‘this’ means).

We’re a new web startup based out of New York City. We do lots of cutting edge work in Machine Learning and collaborative filtering, and have a really interesting (fast and scalable) architecture. We score a 10 out of 12 on the Joel Test (http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/fog0000000043.html) - and are aiming to get to a perfect score pretty soon! We were founded by three Harvard graduates in June 2009 and has received significant national press coverage and interest from blue chip venture capital firms.

If you have code samples (a github page, open source contributions, etc) please be sure to mention it!

Job Description and responsibilities:

You'll be 'in charge' of the website and mobile website. You'll interact with the founders and our designer regularly, helping to make the Postabon provide the best user experience possible. As our first technical hire, you'll have a lot of control over the direction of a new and growing startup. Want to use HAML and Compass? Prototype instead of jQuery? If there's a good reason, you'll have the control to influence things as you like.

In the future you'll have the opportunity to learn about other aspects of Postabon (if you're interested). Some things you could branch out into include our native mobile apps (iPhone, Android, Blackberry), machine learning, or functional programming.
